12/1/2023 0 Comments Vox spain rusia□ Terra Nova Sciences PO is seeking new members for the bureau! Thus, Vox can disappear because its far-right objectives have already been accomplished. However, its presence during these years has normalized many discourses and has radicalized the mainstream right. Therefore, if Vox continues on this path, and everything indicates that it will, it will become a marginal party (of course, in the long term). The Spanish society, since the beginning of the democracy, has considered itself to be very moderate, which is something that persisted in these elections. Many of these proposals, adding an aggressive tone, were perceived as too radical by an important part of the population. Vox's strategies were imported, in particular, from the far-right populists of Eastern Europe, despite being societies so different in history and culture. In the last elections of July 23, this faction directed Vox´s electoral campaign and caused the party to lose a significant number of votes and consequently, of deputies. This faction is committed to protectionist postulates in economic affairs, closer to Le Pen's NR and therefore, contrary to the ultra-neoliberalism that characterized Vox until now. This faction is made up of Catholic fundamentalists close to the Falange, the fascist political party of Franco´s dictatorship, 1939-1975, (and yes, it is still a legal party). In fact, the break with Le Pen was because the National Rally defends a strong welfare state for the native population against immigrants, while Vox proposes a minimal state.īut recently, the party has started to be directed by a more radical faction. This was an anomaly within the European populist far-right since instead of ultra-neoliberals they are "chauvinist welfare parties". Ultra-neoliberalism in the economy inspired by Trump and Bolsonaro. Ultra-conservatism in social affairs inspired by Fidesz and PiS. Vox was the party which knew how to use that feeling of pride for the national symbols in this context.įrom its foundation until the last general elections, held on the 23 of July, these were the main lines of the party: Especially, independentism brought in the rest of the country a great nationalist fervour against breaking national unity that could easily be exploited by a populist party. The independence movement in Catalonia, immigration and popular discontent with the political model that was in crisis were the triggers for a more radical party. While in the rest of Europe the far-right parties have been growing since the 1990s, Spain was an exception until 2013, when Vox was founded. The end of the Spanish far-right? A little analysis here:
